MORNING FANTASY REPORT — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2026

MORNING THEME: REPLACEMENTS

Jalen Hurts and David Montgomery are out, while Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota are on bye. Secure usable replacements before chasing speculative upside—especially with Lamar Jackson’s status still unresolved.

PRIORITY PLAYER UPDATES

Jalen Hurts — Ruled out against Carolina because of a superficial blood clot. His timetable beyond Week 6 remains uncertain.
Fantasy move: Bench and secure a replacement. Do not make a drop decision based on speculative recovery estimates.

Lamar Jackson — Missed Wednesday and Thursday practices with an ankle injury.
Fantasy move: Keep a backup ready. Tyler Huntley becomes an option only if confirmed as the starter.

Saquon Barkley — Missed Wednesday and Thursday practices with a hamstring injury.
Fantasy move: Prepare an alternative. Dameon Pierce is a conditional, risky flex—not an automatic strong start.

David Montgomery / Woody Marks — Montgomery is out with a groin injury. Marks is expected to lead Houston’s backfield.
Fantasy move: Marks is the first available running back to investigate, offering flex value with RB2 upside.

Rashee Rice — Missed Wednesday and Thursday practices with a hamstring injury.
Fantasy move: Prepare a pivot. Xavier Worthy’s outlook improves if Rice sits.

DJ Moore — Missed a second straight practice Thursday with a shoulder injury.
Fantasy move: Have another receiver ready. Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir become replacement candidates if Moore is out.

CeeDee Lamb — Practiced fully Wednesday after last week’s quadriceps injury.
Fantasy move: Plan to start if cleared; monitor the final designation.

Brock Bowers / Ashton Jeanty — Both practiced fully Thursday.
Fantasy move: Positive availability signals. Plan to start if cleared.

DeVonta Smith — Returned to limited practice Thursday after missing two games.
Fantasy move: Not cleared yet. Account for both hamstring risk and the move to backup quarterback Tanner McKee.

THURSDAY-NIGHT RECAP

Denver defeated Seattle, 17–14.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba — 12 catches, 134 yards on 16 targets.
Fantasy takeaway: Strong yardage production despite no touchdown.

J.K. Dobbins — 17 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown, plus three catches for five yards.
Fantasy takeaway: The touchdown rescued an inefficient rushing night.

Emanuel Wilson — 14 carries for 52 yards; no catches.
Fantasy takeaway: Modest production, with future workload risk as Zach Charbonnet approaches a return.

Sam Darnold — 278 passing yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Fantasy takeaway: Passing volume did not translate into a strong fantasy result.

Bo Nix — 107 passing yards and no passing touchdowns.
Fantasy takeaway: A disappointing result for managers relying on him.

Seattle and Denver have already played. Their players are not new Week 6 lineup solutions. Charbonnet remains a future-role stash rather than an immediate rescue.

WAIVER PRIORITIES AND MARKET MOVERS

RUNNING BACKS

  1. Woody Marks
Best immediate opportunity to investigate. Montgomery’s absence creates a path to touches, although Jacksonville presents a difficult matchup.

  2. MarShawn Lloyd
A standard-format flex candidate, not a workhorse. His two Week 5 rushing touchdowns came on 10 carries, and Green Bay still uses a committee.

  3. Dameon Pierce
Conditional insurance for Barkley managers. His opportunity could increase, but Philadelphia’s offensive uncertainty makes him a risky start.

  4. Zach Charbonnet
Worth checking for longer-term upside. His return date and eventual workload are not guaranteed.

QUARTERBACKS

Investigate Aaron Rodgers or Jameis Winston if available. Huntley is conditional on Jackson missing the game. McKee is not an automatic starter in a single-QB league.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Germie Bernard — Had six catches for 80 yards on nine targets last week. Pittsburgh’s receiver absences create an opportunity worth investigating.

Xavier Worthy — Gains appeal if Rice sits.

Keon Coleman / Khalil Shakir — Become more appealing if Moore remains out.

TIGHT ENDS

Pat Freiermuth / Brenton Strange — Streaming candidates. Freiermuth has four touchdowns this season; Strange caught seven passes for 68 yards last week.

FRANCHISE WATCH

Philadelphia — Hurts is out, Barkley remains uncertain and Smith is working back. More available touches do not automatically make every replacement a good fantasy start.

Baltimore — Jackson’s availability remains unresolved. Have a quarterback contingency ready.

New England — Rhamondre Stevenson gains appeal with TreVeyon Henderson expected to miss time. A.J. Brown’s return to limited practice is encouraging, but it is not a confirmed activation.

Houston — Marks gains immediate relevance. Tank Dell remains out for Week 6 despite practicing fully.

Chicago — Caleb Williams was a full participant on Wednesday’s estimated report. Confirm final clearance before relying on a rebound for the passing game.

Cleveland — Quinshon Judkins and multiple backups have availability concerns. Do not assume a settled replacement hierarchy before final statuses arrive.

TODAY’S LINEUP CHECKLIST

  1. Remove Bengals, Lions, Dolphins and Vikings players from starting slots. All four teams are on bye.

  2. Secure a replacement for Hurts and a contingency for Jackson.

Recheck Friday updates for Barkley, Rice, Moore and Smith. Thursday practice absences are not final Sunday designations.

  3. Check the Houston–Jacksonville London kickoff and inactive deadline separately rather than waiting for the usual afternoon lineup review.

  4. For this standard-scoring report, the editorial tiebreaker is expected yardage and touchdown opportunity—not reception totals alone.
