Fantasy Football Daily Report
Saturday, August 22, 2026 — Preseason Week 2 · Prepared for redraft managers
Preseason Week 2 hit fantasy rosters harder than the games did. Nick Chubb closed the book Friday night, announcing his retirement after eight seasons and 7,349 career rushing yards, closing the door on any late-round Texans-backfield lottery ticket. Houston's receiver room took a bigger hit a day earlier when Jayden Higgins landed on season-ending injured reserve with a torn ACL; the Texans answered by signing veterans Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones off tryouts. Tyreek Hill remains unsigned and unready — agent Drew Rosenhaus said Friday he doesn't expect Hill to sign before the season starts. Add Alvin Kamara's MCL sprain handing the lead job to Travis Etienne in New Orleans and a rash of interior-line injuries in Los Angeles and Baltimore, and this week's news demands real edits to your draft board before the Aug. 30 roster cutdown.
Must-Monitor Injuries
Highest-leverage availability notes for a 12-team standard (non-PPR) league heading into the Aug. 30 cutdown.
Nick Chubb (RB, FA — ex-Browns/Texans): Confirmed retired. Chubb announced it on Instagram Friday night, writing that he's "finally ready" to walk away after eight seasons. He finishes with 7,349 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns; he managed just 506 yards in 15 games last year in Houston after rookie Woody Marks passed him on the depth chart. Fantasy move: Scrub him from every queue — there's no roster impact. It does confirm Woody Marks as Houston's rising back; he played the Texans' entire first-team opening drive Thursday.
Tyreek Hill (WR, Free Agent): Confirmed. Hill remains unsigned after his release from Miami in February and is still rehabbing a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including the ACL. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Friday: "I don't expect Tyreek to sign before the season... He told me, I still have some work to do. I'm not ready yet." Hill posted in July that he still had no power in his surgically repaired leg. Fantasy move: Do not draft him in a 12-team redraft league. He's not a bench stash — he's an in-season waiver watch once he actually signs and practices.
Alvin Kamara / Travis Etienne (RB, Saints): Confirmed. Kamara sprained his MCL in an Aug. 18 joint practice with Dallas and is out at least a month, putting the Sept. 13 opener at Detroit in question. Etienne has taken the bulk of first-team reps all summer and is now New Orleans' starter with Kamara out. Kamara posted career lows last year — 657 scrimmage yards, one touchdown, 3.6 yards per carry. Fantasy move: Push Etienne into your RB2 tier — he now has an unchallenged early-season workload. Let Kamara slide to a bench dart; Devin Neal and Kendre Miller are the deep-league contingency plays.
Jayden Higgins (WR, Texans): Confirmed. Houston placed Higgins on season-ending injured reserve Friday, Aug. 21, after he tore his ACL landing awkwardly in a red-zone drill during Tuesday's joint practice with the Raiders. He was locked into the WR2 job opposite Nico Collins after a 41-catch, 525-yard, 6-touchdown rookie season. Fantasy move: Bump Nico Collins up your board — he absorbs the vacated targets. Dalton Schultz becomes a legitimate late-round TE sleeper in Houston's reshuffled passing game. Skip the rest of the Texans' receiver depth in 12-team formats.
Tyler Biadasz (C, Chargers): Confirmed. Biadasz suffered ACL damage plus additional left-knee injuries when a defensive lineman fell into his leg during Tuesday's joint practice with San Francisco; he's out indefinitely and is seeking a second opinion. Rookie Jake Slaughter has taken over at center and allowed zero pressures on nine snaps Thursday. Fantasy move: Fade Omarion Hampton outside the top 15 running backs while this line sorts itself out. Keaton Mitchell is the buy — he played every snap on the second and third drives and is being used as a receiver.
Josh Jacobs (RB, Packers): Jacobs returned to practice Tuesday from a groin injury but sat out Friday's game at Denver. He also faces possible league discipline tied to an offseason domestic-assault arrest, and Green Bay may carry four backs into Week 1 if he's charged or suspended. Fantasy move: Discount Jacobs a round from his current ADP. Draft MarShawn Lloyd as the direct hedge — he started Friday, out-snapped Chris Brooks 16-7 through three drives, and caught an 11-yard touchdown.
Draft-Market Movers
Depth-chart and snap-count signals from Thursday and Friday's preseason Week 2 games.
The Chargers' backfield is trending toward a two-man rotation — Omarion Hampton played just the first three snaps, Keaton Mitchell handled every snap on the second and third drives in every situation, and Kimani Vidal didn't touch the field until the fourth drive. In Carolina, Jonathon Brooks played all but two snaps with the starters and scored on a goal-line touch while Chuba Hubbard (hamstring) sits out until at least Week 1.
De'Zhaun Stribling is this preseason's biggest riser — 4-for-5 for 46 yards over two drives with Brock Purdy, working an inside-outside hybrid role that has pushed his ADP up more than 13 spots in a single week. Tre Tucker sat with Las Vegas' starters while free-agent addition Jalen Nailor played into the second quarter — treat Tucker as the Raiders' clear WR1. Jets rookie Omar Cooper Jr. started ahead of Isaiah Williams but managed just one catch for nine yards.

Franchise notes from Aug. 20–21. Teams with no material skill-position news are omitted.
Houston Texans: Higgins is out for the year, and Houston signed veteran wideouts Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones off tryouts Friday, with Josh Reynolds also auditioning. Woody Marks played the Texans' entire first-team opening drive Thursday and ripped off a career-best touchdown run, with beat writers already floating a 50/50 split with David Montgomery. Tank Dell still isn't practicing with the team. Move: Buy Collins and Marks; fade Montgomery. Ignore Shepard and Jones in 12-team leagues.
Los Angeles Chargers: Biadasz is out indefinitely and rookie Jake Slaughter is now the starting center. Charlie Kolar took every 11-personnel snap on the first two drives while Oronde Gadsden II didn't play until the third; Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris both sat out. Move: Gadsden is off the board for now. Kolar is a sneaky Chargers tight end. Favor Mitchell over Vidal, and temper expectations for Hampton.
Las Vegas Raiders: Coach Klint Kubiak again declined to name a Week 1 starting quarterback between Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza after Thursday's game; Mendoza threw a pick-six and finished 8-of-15 for 86 yards. Rookie Mike Washington Jr. piled up 56 rushing yards by halftime after 63 in the opener, playing 22 of 26 second-team snaps. Move: Washington is draftable in every 12-team league as direct Ashton Jeanty insurance. Tucker remains the only Raiders receiver worth a pick.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Jaylen Warren started over Rico Dowdle and the two rotated on the third drive — Warren finished 5-18, Dowdle 5-17 plus a catch. Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph both sat, and Pittsburgh looks likely to keep four quarterbacks. Roman Wilson holds a slight edge on Germie Bernard for the No. 3 receiver job. Move: Treat the backfield as a true, frustrating split — neither back is a comfortable RB2 yet. Leave Wilson and Bernard alone unless DK Metcalf or Michael Pittman Jr. misses real time.
Baltimore Ravens: Center Danny Pinter is expected to miss extended time — likely the season — with what NFL Network described as a torn patellar tendon suffered in Wednesday's joint practice with Minnesota. Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn are the leading replacements. Move: No direct skill-position hit, but shave a touch of confidence off Baltimore's early-season interior run-blocking projections.
Buffalo Bills: Keon Coleman is dealing with a sprained right foot and toe after limping off during an Aug. 15 preseason game against Carolina; he was seen in a low walking boot this week and is listed questionable. Move: Coleman's draft cost is cheap enough to absorb the risk, but don't reach for him — confirm he's practicing fully before you lock in Week 1 plans.
Indianapolis Colts: Tyler Warren left a joint practice with Atlanta with an adductor strain and could return within a week; Week 1 isn't in real jeopardy. Alec Pierce is still working back from ankle surgery. Move: Keep Warren in your top-four tight end tier — Pierce's continued absence only concentrates Indianapolis's passing game further his way.
Kansas City Chiefs: Justin Fields was set to start and play into the second quarter against Tampa Bay on Saturday with Patrick Mahomes getting the day off. Move: Nothing actionable here — Mahomes' rest is routine. Don't read anything into Kansas City's preseason snap counts.

Franchise notes from Aug. 20–21. Teams with no material skill-position news are omitted.
New Orleans Saints: Kamara is out at least a month with an MCL sprain and Etienne is the new starter. First-round rookie WR Jordyn Tyson will also miss at least two months with a hamstring injury. Coach Kellen Moore said of the backfield picture: "This is going to be a hard group to sort out." Move: Etienne is a clear RB2 buy right now. Tyson is a stash-only rookie at best.
San Francisco 49ers: Stribling caught four passes for 46 yards over two drives and has already claimed an inside-outside hybrid role, with Ricky Pearsall out for the season and George Kittle still working back into form. Rookie Kaelon Black started at running back, rushing for 8-33 and looking sharp in pass protection. San Francisco also signed RB Khalil Herbert and placed Patrick Taylor on IR. Move: Draft Stribling in the 10th-11th round range and take Black as your Christian McCaffrey injury hedge.
Green Bay Packers: MarShawn Lloyd started and out-snapped Chris Brooks 16-7 through three drives, adding an 11-yard touchdown catch, while Jacobs sat out with his groin issue and a pending legal situation. Pierre Strong Jr. chipped in a 68-yard kick return and 37 rushing yards on eight carries. Move: Lloyd is the best handcuff in the league right now. Jayden Reed sat for an undisclosed reason — check his practice status before you draft him.
Denver Broncos: Jaylen Waddle made his Broncos debut in an every-down role on the first drive, hauling in a 35-yard catch on his very first target from Bo Nix. Evan Engram jumped to 12 of 14 snaps with the starters, up from 15 of 25 the week before. Marvin Mims Jr. was dressed but sat out with an undisclosed injury, and J.K. Dobbins didn't play again. Move: Waddle is the Broncos receiver to own. Engram belongs on your watch list, not your draft board yet.
Carolina Panthers: Jonathon Brooks played all but two snaps with Carolina's starters and scored at the goal line with Hubbard (hamstring) sidelined, though he did whiff on a routine pass-protection block. Xavier Legette missed the game after getting rolled up on Wednesday, and new signee Darren Waller didn't debut. Move: Brooks is a strong value even after his ADP already spiked — he could open as Carolina's Week 1 starter.
Washington Commanders: RB Rachaad White will sit out Saturday's game against Detroit with a hamstring injury the team expects to be short-term; Jayden Daniels' availability for the same game was still to be determined. Move: No real panic on White, but it's one more small mark against his already modest standard-league value.
Detroit Lions: TE Sam LaPorta sat out Wednesday's practice with a hip injury, though Detroit says it feels good about his status long-term. Jared Goff will sit out Saturday's game, with Joshua Dobbs starting and Luke Altmyer splitting time. Move: Hold LaPorta at his current price, but keep a backup tight end plan in mind through cutdown week.
Arizona Cardinals: QB Carson Beck (ribs) resumed throwing Thursday but isn't expected to play Saturday against Dallas; Gardner Minshew starts with Jacoby Brissett resting. TE Tip Reiman (ankle) won't be ready for Week 1 and a PUP decision is pending. Move: Arizona's quarterback and tight end spots are undraftable noise in standard 12-team leagues right now.
Seattle Seahawks: WR Jake Bobo suffered what coach Mike Macdonald called a "serious" knee injury in Friday's joint practice with Tennessee, and the team expects it to be long-term. Move: No redraft impact, but it's one more receiver-room roster spot Seattle has to replace before the Aug. 30 cutdown.
