morning Wood - Daily Report - 9/5/26
Saturday, September 5, 2026
League focus: 12-team standard, non-PPR, 1-QB Sleeper.
Week 1 is still four days away, so this is a role-and-availability weekend. Prioritize confirmed active status, early-down work, and goal-line access over lingering preseason narratives. The 2026 season opens Wednesday, September 9, with Patriots at Seahawks at 8:20 PM EDT, and 49ers at Rams follows on Thursday night.
Player Updates
Breece Hall (RB, Jets): Hall had been working back from a groin issue, and the current official Week 1 injury report does not list a Jets injury designation. Fantasy move: Treat him as a startable RB1/2 in standard leagues. His rushing workload and touchdown profile matter more than reception volume.
Tee Higgins (WR, Bengals): Higgins had been managing a heel issue, and the Bengals are not currently listed with a Week 1 injury designation on the official report. Fantasy move: Keep him in the WR2 range. His red-zone role makes him especially valuable in non-PPR scoring.
Ashton Jeanty (RB, Raiders): Jeanty had been linked to an ankle sprain, while the official Week 1 injury page currently does not show a Raiders injury designation. Fantasy move: Monitor practice participation and the final game designation. If active, do not bench him automatically; avoid overpaying until his workload is fully clear.
Alvin Kamara (RB, Saints): Kamara had been reported as dealing with a knee injury, but the Saints are currently not showing injuries on the Week 1 report. Fantasy move: Confirm his final designation before setting lineups. If active, his touchdown access keeps him viable in standard scoring.
Zach Charbonnet (RB, Seahawks): Charbonnet was reported unavailable for the opening four games. Fantasy move: Keep him out of Week 1 lineups and off short-bench redraft rosters. Seattle's available backs gain short-term contingency value.
Tank Dell (WR, Texans): Dell remains on reserve/injured status with a return designation, clouding his early-season availability. Fantasy move: Do not use him in Week 1. Monitor Houston's healthy receivers for target and snap clarity.
Jayden Higgins (WR, Texans): Higgins reportedly suffered a torn ACL and is out for the 2026 season. Fantasy move: Remove him from redraft consideration. Reassess Houston's receiver pecking order rather than assuming one player automatically absorbs the opportunity.
Up/Down Board
Up — Breece Hall: No current Week 1 injury designation and a premium rushing and touchdown profile for standard scoring.
Up — George Kittle: Activated from PUP and positioned to open the season against the Rams.
Up — Seattle RB depth: Charbonnet's expected absence creates early-season opportunity for the backs available behind Seattle's primary runner.
Down — Zach Charbonnet: Expected to miss at least the first four games.
Down — Tank Dell: Not a reliable Week 1 option while on injured reserve.
Down — Jayden Higgins: Out for the season.
Games to Watch
Jets at Titans — Sunday, 1:00 PM EDT: Watch Hall's final practice participation and confirmation of a full opening-week workload.
Buccaneers at Bengals — Sunday, 1:00 PM EDT: Higgins is the key player to monitor, though current indications point toward availability.
Bills at Texans — Sunday, 1:00 PM EDT: Track Houston's receiver rotation and snap distribution with Dell and Higgins unavailable.
Dolphins at Raiders — Sunday, 4:25 PM EDT: Watch Jeanty's practice status and any indication of a reduced workload.
49ers at Rams — Thursday, 8:35 PM EDT: Kittle is a strong early-week option if he avoids a late injury designation.
Strategy Note
In a 12-team standard, non-PPR league, chase carries, goal-line snaps, and touchdown access. Build the bench around contingent-upside running backs rather than low-ceiling, reception-dependent WR4 types, because one depth-chart change can create an immediate weekly starter.
