Roster-cut deadline approaching
The league has shifted into final-roster mode: teams must pare 90-man rosters to 53 by 6 p.m. ET Sunday, following the final slate of preseason games Thursday through Saturday. This is a pivotal stretch for fringe starters, rookies, backup quarterbacks, and potential trade candidates.
Major headlines
• Seahawks lose three players for the season: Seattle placed rookie safety Bud Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman on season-ending injured reserve after Sunday’s preseason game in Tennessee. Receiver Jake Bobo also suffered a season-ending knee injury during a joint practice with the Titans.
• Cardinals backfield: Trey Benson is on injured reserve. Arizona also re-signed center Hjalte Froholdt to a two-year extension through 2028.
• Texans receiver depth: Jayden Higgins reportedly tore his ACL, prompting Houston to trade for receiver help.
• Patriots wide receiver room: New England traded Kayshon Boutte, a move expected amid roster reductions.
• Detroit: Veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson retired amid Tuesday’s transaction wave.
Fantasy watchlist
• Ja’Marr Chase: A recent knee scare reportedly appears short-lived, but his practice participation is worth monitoring this week.
• Ashton Jeanty and TreVeyon Henderson: Both had minor training-camp scares—a knee concern for Jeanty and a slip/fall for Henderson—but neither is currently reported as a major issue.
• Cedric Tillman: NFL.com identified the Browns receiver as a possible roster casualty after an undisclosed camp injury kept him off the field.
Transactions and availability
Other notable moves included Miami cutting Tahj Washington, Ethan Robinson, and Jamaree Salyer while claiming WR Ryan Miller; Washington placing DE Drake Jackson on IR with a hamstring injury; and New Orleans placing RB Ty Chandler and TE Moliki Matavao on IR with knee injuries.
Reported suspensions include Atlanta rookie James Pearce Jr. (eight games), Bills DT Phidarian Mathis (three), Titans DB Nazeeh Johnson (six), and Commanders EDGE Dorance Armstrong (one).
